My Trichotillomania Hair Style – Ode to the Clip Collection!

February 15, 2017 By: Lesley

My Trichotillomania Hairstyle FB

When you constantly twist and pull your hair out it’s going to get shorter and THINNER, right?

Which explains why my hair looks the way it does, uneven, patchy and just plain weird sometimes.

I have a really large clip and headband collection around somewhere…  I mean I keep most of the stuff in the bathroom if I can..

I tend to fiddle with whatever I put in there that I end up losing it somewhere in the process..

I really do have the largest hair clip collection somewhere though, it’s around.

One of the ways I hide imperfections is to just add a hair clip to the area.

I pull one piece over the patchy area with a clip and viola!

I like Scunci no slip grip clips because they really grab my hair tight and I like that.

It’s almost like I have feeling in that part of my hair… I know impossible, right?!

Sometimes I’ll use the clips to pull it back on the sides and then flip the hair in the back over it so you can’t see short, patchy areas.

I prefer the brown or black no slip grip Scrunci clips over any other color because it blends in with my brunette hair and you can’t tell I have them in.

I don’t want to draw attention to my hair so these clips sort of give me a good cover.

What If I Don’t Wear My Precious Clips?

Well, then you get this uneven rock star look!

You can see where I pull my hair the most because it’s frayed, short and patchy.

Lots of split ends in that area because sometimes I just twist the pieces looking for the right ones to pull.

You can see why I hate going to get my hair cut now..

A hairdresser can always tell!

Everyday people won’t notice because I have my clips and if I wear it without clips, I try to wear it straight so that I can cover up any shorter, patchy areas.

You can see that its short but its hard to tell how short and uneven it really is unless you’re really looking at it and lifting up the longer pieces on top.

I try to keep my clips in for the most part.

I also like these other jaw clips here because I like how they feel when they grip on.

They also grab enough hair to cover up short, patchy areas I don’t want to show.

The only thing though …. you can see they stand out more?

Definitely noticeable.

So, how do you wear your hair?

Do you like clips?

Do you wear hats?

What sort of Trichotillomaina hair style are you sporting these days?

Maybe yours is shorter than mine?

Where do you pull your hair at?

I would love to be able to shave my head and get rid of all my hair, something about that thought feels so freeing but alas, I hate my face.

I see all these beautiful trichsters with their beautiful faces and I think, mine won’t look like that.

That’s probably a self esteem issue more than anything.  I like hiding my face.

So what’s your look?

Leave me comment.

Thank you for this blog post. I was able to read it to my 15 year old daughter who also struggles with Trich and also has a massive clip collection. That was the first time we were able to laugh about it.
