Nose Picking and Booger Eating – Let’s Talk About the Not-Talkable!

Is Chronic Booger Picking and Eating a Thing?

You bet it is.

Nose picking is another BFRB like Trichotillomania or Dermatillomania.,

If you pick your boogers excessively, it’s called rhinotillexomania and if you go as far as eating them, that’s Mucophagy.

Very similar names to Trichotillomania and Trichophagia.

You can tell I did some research huh?

Well that’s becuase ever since I have stopped pulling my hair my nose picking and booger eating seem to be out of hand.

Yea, I said booger eating, I do that.

If that bothers you, well whatever.

I decided to do some Googling, because I’m not gonna walk in the doctor and tell him I can’t stop picking my boogers and eating them, afterall, I’m a lady. 🤦

I found some mixed opinions in my search about this booger picking and eating thing.

Seriously, if this grosses you out, I don’t give shit, I’m speaking out what’s happening anyway.

Ever since I stopped pulling my hair two weeks ago I have this impulsive thing about going for my nose.

You know what made me think about all this?

I’ve really been doing good not pulling my hair, but it seems my hands really need something to do, in the car, they seem to be all up in my schnoz 👃.

My Keens are a HUGE help with booger picking but today I wasn’t’ wearing them.

I do have them programmed for this gesture though and they help when I have them on.

They have a specific section for the nose – way cool.

See here on my band overview in the Keen app.  “Other 1” is for my nose picking.

I don’t even realize I’m picking and eating my boogers if I don’t wear those bracelets.

My brain has totally reprogrammed itself when it comes to hair pulling but I can tell that my next area to really get under control is this booger picking and eating thing.

Again, if that grosses you out, get over it.  I’m being serious.

I get sick of the stigmas around BFRB’s.

So anyway, I’m on way home from visiting some friends, I was at the light turning and I had one of those moments where I had to pick and I ate it.

Someone totally saw me a couple cars over…

Oops!

The thing with my booger picking, unlike Trichotillomania, it doesn’t hurt, I don’t bleed, nothing major in the way of harm to my physical appearance is done, so is it bad??

I talked to the kids at church about this awhile back.

Funny thing is, I could have my Tangle toy and I’ll even try to pick my nose with that. 🤔

So I was reading what others had to say about booger picking people and some actually thought it was good for you.. ha ha ha

Dr. Friedrich Bischinger encourages children to pick and eat their boogers.

“It is a completely natural response and medically a good idea as well.” – Dr. Friedrich Bischinger

Not all the articles agree with good ol’ Doc Friedrich though.

Nosepicking is not the end of the world if you do it it but it’s not totally pretty either.

Even though it’s Dr. Friedrich doesn’t mind it, I think others do so I’d like to get this under control so I’m not feeling awkward over it.

So, what about you?
