There’s a Connection Between My Entrepreneurial Stress and Trichotillomania ..
It was about four years ago (2012) when I realized that I couldn’t stop twisting and pulling my hair.
That was also the same year that I went into business for myself, interesting huh?
I actually work online from home and have been for the last ten years.
I started my own business four years ago and like most people in business for themselves, the first year was not all that I dreamed it would be.
It was stressful….
I wasn’t making much money and it was causing stress in a lot of areas.
I know that is probably the case with most people who go into business for themselves…
The hair pulling started when I was really little, I always sucked my thumb and pulled my hair but it wasn’t until I was 32 years of age that I realized I couldn’t just stop it.
The same time I started my business.
My hair was getting shorter and THINNER on one side and it was so noticeable!
I work at home because I am VERY shy, not someone who enjoys the public atmosphere at all.
I have either quit or been fired from every job I ever had.
It’s not that I’m not smart or talented, I just don’t like being in the general pool of people in the world for lots of reasons.
How does someone in business not deal with people?
You have to be thinking that right?
Just like I’m not dealing with you now. LOL
I write online for a living.
Most of my contact with the outside world happens online for me.
I don’t have to worry about being socially acceptable when I work online.
I can wear my hair however I want..
I can stop and suck my thumb in between thoughts and no one is gonna pick on me for doing so..
I can fidget with the best of them right here in my chair and no one will ever notice.
That’s how I run a business with trichotillomania, I do it from home, out of the public eye.
More to come on this topic later.. I definitely have more to say but I have four kids too, so I have to say it in chunks when I can..
..since business is a trigger point of my stress, I’m going to talk more soon 😉
I leave you with this hilarious “trichotillomania hair bun style” you definitely can’t wear if you work in an office.
…because I do weird crap with my hair.
