CBD For Trichotillomania. Is It Help or Hype?

February 12, 2019 By: Lesley

CBD for trichotillomania? Here's the 411 on whether it's help or hype and which brand to even consider if you're going to take it.

I have been taking CBD oil since the middle of last year. I started taking it because I kept hearing so many people say it was helping with their anxiety.

First, What is CBD Oil?

Short version.

CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant which is part of the cannabis species of plants.

CBD is non-psychoactive, there’s no high associated with this form of Cannabis because of it’s very low THC content (less than 0.3%).

Studies have shown CBD oil can reduce anxiety, depression, inflammation and bring about balance in many other areas of the body.

CBD is loaded with Omega Fatty acids which are great for hair growth.

I started using it after hearing so many good things about it in Facebook groups as well as different media outlets.

The Benefits Of CBD Oil For Trichotillomania

I began using a high quality, organic CBD oil last June and mostly for my anxiety and insomnia issues.

I needed some sort of natural relief because whenever I am over-anxious, I want to pull my hair and whenever I don’t get enough sleep, I pull my hair more.

How do I know this?

Because I would track my behaviors in my trichotillomania journal and I could look back and see major issues when it came to my mood and sleep.

For whatever reason, I could NOT sleep well.

I have the strangest sleeping habits that would keep me up at night and it would leave me exhausted, anxious and irritiable the next day.

My anxiety levels at the time were through the roof because of all the crap going on in my personal life and I just wanted some relief without the side effects and lifetime of dependancy on pharmacuticals.

Relief is worth something. It really is.

I don’t believe in pharmicuticals at all, doctors put me on so many medications when I was younger for these issues that it really messed me for a long time. (parent’s please consider this before you drug your children in order to help them with this disorder, there are other ways to go about it)

Getting off all the drugs was a huge struggle that wrecked my life for a long time. I never wanted to go back to that sort of chemical dependancy. There was a long time when I thought I could never live without these drugs. That’s a horrible feeling.

For years after breaking the drug cycle, I managed my anxiety on my own so that I wouldn’t have to go back to pHARMa.

I removed most of the sugar out of my diet and I changed my a lot of my eating habits. I added some supplments to help keep my anxiousness as low as possible but I still I had struggles.

When I started hearing the benefits of CBD oil, I immediately purchased some from a reputable source and from the FIRST dose I felt better.

In a world of instant gratification, I think that’s why pharmicuitcals are so popular, they offer fast relief but they are essentially poison for your body.

CBD oil lowers my anxiety levels almost immediately and works with the SYSTEMS of the body, not the symptoms.

It’s all natural relief without the shit in my body.

CBD oil has helped me sleep like a rock where I always struggled to stay asleep before. The lack of sleep was was a trigger for pulling. I would get anxious, tired, irritable and sometimes turn into a zombie and just pull out my hair as a result.

It’s improved my PMS symptoms, lowered my depression and helped my hair regrowth.

I keep a bottle on hand at all times in my trichotillomania toolkit so that I always have it with me.

Does CBD Reduce Hair Pulling?

I’ve been taking it 2-3 times a day for the last 8 months and it’s been a huge game changer for my trichotillomania because it REDUCES the triggers for my trichotillomania.

Anxiety, sleep disorders, PMS and other struggles I was dealing with would put me at increased risk for hair pulling but when I take the CBD oil I see all those things reduced which results in less pulling.

I have been taking a combination of NAC and CBD oil and that seems to be the most effective Trich relief for me.

In addition to these supplements I also keep a trichotillomaia toolkit of items to help keep me. Inside are my Keen bracelets for awareness, fidgets for keeping busy … things like that.

Is CBD Oil Expensive?

Short answer.

No. Not if you get a good, highly pure and potent brand, it’s not.

A good CBD oil will last you a long time because of the potency of the plant.

I get away with only 15-20 drops a day and my bottle has 1,000 drops. That’s over a month and half of use from one ounce.

I personally take the 500mg full spectrum, natural flavored CBD oil because I don’t want any added ingredients or flavors. I only want the purest, most natural stuff to use.

I think everyone with trichotillomania should at least try it, see if it doesn’t help with the triggers because the benefits for your body are incredible, even if you don’t have a hair pulling disorder.

I am so excited about reading this post! I have been a trick sufferer for almost 20 years now. Unfortunately I also suffer from thrichopalgia. I know my triggers and as a parent anxiety can be super high all the time. I am so over pharma drugs and have been contemplating using CBD, to try and manage my triggers. This has given me all sorts of hope! I also am a Keen bracelet user, although it helps, the only thing to take it away in the past was pharmaceutical drugs. I’m not willing to go back!! I am starting CBD in about a week! I’m so excited!! Thank you for writing this!
